Midheaven Custom

The Midheaven series is a custom guitar at production prices, and the basis for you to add your custom options such as fret size, fingerboard, pickups, neck profile and finishes.

The basis of the design was adopted by Alison Solo to design her Signature model (below) and each one is made to order from the best available woods for balance, weight and tone.

The Body is a lightweight Alder, 7.5-8 lbs is average. The neck is braced with a biflex truss rod, adjusted via a spoke wheel at the body end. Pickups are AlNiCo II, wound to a vintage level with 42 AWG wire which give a bright and articulate tone, and are very responsive to touch. The volume and tone are wired in the 50’s style which is very transparent to volume control changes, in contrast to the modern configuration that can suck tone at low volumes.

The strings go through the body into a milled steel block which creates a good break angle over the bridge - which is fitted with roller saddles for smooth bending and ultimate string life.

All the guitars are finished in Nitrocellulose Custom colours, fitted with 22 nickel steel medium tall frets as standard, and the neck is a slim taper shape with a 12” radius.

alison Solo Signature Model

Alison Solo is a Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist currently based in Vancouver. Her second album “Plutonian” was released in mid 2020, mixed by the multi platinum engineer Ron Nevison (Led Zep/UFO/Lizzy/Heart etc), and has been receiving extensive airplay and great reviews.

When I first made contact with Alison, only a loose design had been set out for what has now become the Midheaven series guitars. We collaborated on creating a guitar that would enable her to bring the songs on her latest album Plutonian to the live stage.

Although much of that album was recorded on a strat, Alison wanted something a little tonally thicker for the stage. So for her signature model we went for AlNiCo 5 P90 style pickups. This gives a good strong singing midrange when driven but with more clarity in the highs than a Humbucker.

Other special features for the Alison’s Signature model are custom gold coloured plastics and matching metallic nitro finish.

Jack Murphy Signature Model

Jack Murphy’s signature model Midheaven takes the very 1960’s styling and body shape of the Custom model and gives it a slightly modern makeover. With an oiled back, binding and a custom colour top, but with the same comfortable arm and belly cuts of the other models, it has a unique look without losing any of the playability of the other models.

Jack’s model cuts a midway tonally between the original design with two humbuckers and Alison’s P90 model. This time the P90 is more tuned to a funky rhythm tone and with a slightly more traditional AlNiCo II magnet. This is perfect foil for the Alnico 2 bridge pickup which is again creates very traditional early PAF sound, which stays very crisp under driven conditions.

Jack’s model also includes a custom carved soft V neck.
